Shiny Pokémon are rare variants with different color palettes in Pokémon Go. For example, Mewtwo, which is normally different shades of purple, is green when shiny. Lugia, instead of being shades of blue, changes shades of red.

Not all Shiny shapes are so easy to tell apart. For example, Elekid's Shiny form is just a darker yellow. You can tell a Pokémon is shiny by a little glittering emblem appearing above the "my when you go to catch them." It is also visible as an icon in your Pokémon roster.

Shiny Pokémon are extremely rare and hard to find, but there are ways to maximize your chances.

HOW DO I CATCH A SHINY?

Shiny Pokémon can be encountered in the wild at random. You can also get Shiny Pokémon during raids and as rewards from Field Research tasks.

Note that Evolved Forms of Pokémon cannot be captured in the Savage Shiny. This means that you will never see a Shiny Blastoise in the wild, although you will find shiny Squirtles. Pikachu, Nidorina, and Nidoqueen are the exceptions to this rule.

WHAT’S THE CHANCE OF GETTING A SHINY?

According to the dedicated researchers at The Silph Road, the regular Shiny rate is 1 in 450. Rare spawns like Scyther or Pineco have a higher Shiny rate of 1 in 65.

Legendary raiding shine rate is 1/19 if that Pokémon has a released shiny form.

Community Days have an increased shine rate for the featured Pokémon, which is roughly 1/24.

ARE THERE ANY BENEFITS TO HAVING A SHINY POKÉMON?

Not particularly! Shiny Pokémon don't have better stats or especially good IVs. Combat-wise, they're as good as any other Pokémon you catch. The Shinies are just for collection and influence among other sneakers. For example, if you see your friend associated with a Shiny Swablu, you can respect them a little more.

WHAT POKÉMON HAVE AVAILABLE SHINY FORMS IN POKÉMON GO?

Shiny Pokémon are usually added to the game through events. Once the event is over, the Shiny Pokémon is permanently added to the game pool. Below is an updated list of Shiny Pokémon in the game, as of January 14, 2021.
